What Is Dental Scrap Refining
Dental scrap refining is the process of recovering precious metals from qualifying dental materials such as crowns, bridges, and laboratory scrap. The material is processed and tested so its precious-metal content can be evaluated. Those findings, together with the applicable pricing basis and settlement terms, help determine what the lot is worth.

Materials Involved
Qualifying dental scrap may include gold crowns and bridges, porcelain-fused-to-metal restorations (PFMs), porcelain-fused-to-gold restorations (PFGs), inlays, onlays, gold partials, and gold fillings. Dental wires and orthodontic materials are not accepted by CrownMen. Laboratory material can include casting scrap, sweeps, grindings, filters, and floor or bench sweepings.
These are examples, not a complete list of eligible materials. A restoration’s appearance does not tell you exactly which precious metals it contains.

Evaluation and Recovery
CrownMen separates and processes qualifying material, weighs it, and melts or otherwise processes it for evaluation. XRF readings taken at four angles are averaged, and fire assay is also used to assess precious-metal content. The findings support the settlement.
The exact steps depend on the material. Testing matters because similar-looking dental restorations and lots can have different metal compositions.
Settlement Concepts
The value of a dental scrap lot depends on the quantity and composition of precious metals confirmed by evaluation, the applicable market-pricing basis, and settlement terms, including any applicable deductions. Neither a crown’s color nor a lot’s gross weight alone establishes its precious-metal value.
Refining connects the tested material results with the applicable settlement basis. Review the terms before sending material; this article does not set out fees or promise a fixed payout.
